About Michael P. Stokamer

Michael Stokamer is an experienced attorney who has maintained a private practice in New York and New Jersey for more than 25 years. His practice includes divorce and family issues, personal injury and criminal cases. He has represented thousands of diverse clients, with many different problems. He has developed the ability to listen and to see different points of view. He understands the litigation system and knows that for divorce, mediation is a much better way.

Michael Stokamer is an active member of several professional associations. He is Vice-Chair of the Law Related Education Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association, and is a member of The Association for Conflict Resolution, The New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, The New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators and the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. He has been interviewed on radio, has made presentations in schools, to community groups, and to divorce support groups.

Michael Stokamer started Divorce Mediation Solutions to help people decide the issues that must be resolved in divorce in a respectful, non-threatening atmosphere. During mediation the couple, with Michael's sensitive guidance, discusses and explores problems and solutions without the huge financial and emotional costs of a litigated divorce. In appropriate cases, Michael may collaborate with other professionals, including therapists and attorneys, who work with the family.

Michael's goals as a mediator are to

• maintain or develop the couple's ability to cooperate so that they can discuss and resolve any post-divorce problems without the need to go to court
